On this quietest of exam results days we congratulate all our 16 year olds for achieving their GCSE grades this impossible year. You have worked brilliantly with your masked teachers, completing around 30 classroom tests in a six week period, in exam conditions where we assessed the work you had been able to do during the pandemic. Students should smile and move away from anyone who tries to dismiss or belittle their efforts and their grades. Millions of people stayed at home whilst you worked through study and tests in 10 subjects, having missed huge chunks of the syllabus. You will be rightly proud of what you have achieved and now move on to the next stage of your life. Today’s results are merely one stepping stone and I wish you a safe, happy and successful journey.
