At Chauncy School, we offer a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. Our curriculum focuses on students achieving academic success, developing personally and contributing positively to their communities

Our subjects are taught by specialists who focus on deep understanding, long-term retention, and the progressive mastery of key concepts. At Chauncy we recognise that excellence is not one-size-fits-all. As students progress from Key Stage 3 into Key Stage 4 and Sixth Form, our curriculum offers increasingly personalised pathways that combine core academic rigour with high-quality vocational and technical choices. By removing structural barriers and offering tailored guidance, we ensure every student follows a route aligned with their unique talents, interests, and future aspirations.

Beyond academic excellence, we build character, resilience, and respect. Through our vibrant enrichment opportunities, students discover their talents, develop leadership skills, and contribute meaningfully to their school and wider community.

We hold high expectations for every learner. Through adaptive teaching, explicit instruction, and proactive support, we dismantle learning barriers so that disadvantaged students and those with additional needs access the same rich, challenging curriculum as their peers.

Curriculum process

All students in Year 7 and 8 study Art, Computing, Design & Technology, Drama, English, French or Spanish, Geography, History, Mathematics, Music, PE, PSHE, Religious Education and Science.

In Year 9, all students will study a core curriculum of English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Art and Design, and Core PE. They also follow either a red, blue or gold pathway, which means they choose from the following subjects: 3D Design, Design – Graphics, Drama, French, Life Skills & Young Leaders Award, Music, Photography, PE, RE – Philosophy and Ethics, Spanish. You can see more details on these options here. All students attend a formal assembly each week and receive Religious Education lessons in Years Seven, Eight and Nine. Parents have a right to withdraw their child from religious education and collective worship, either in whole or in part. In such cases, the parents will be consulted about appropriate alternative arrangements. During Year 9, students participate in a carousel of taster lessons covering subjects not previously part of core Key Stage 3 to prepare them for their future pathway; these include: Computing, Enterprise, Business Studies, Media, Psychology and Health and Social Care.

As students move into Year 10 and 11, they will have the opportunity to make further choices about what they would like to study. They continue to study the subjects that they chose in Year 9 alongside the core curriculum of English, Maths, Science, PE and PSHE. They then choose two further options: Art, Computing, Business Studies, Enterprise Technical Award, Geography, Health & Social Care Technical Award, History, Media or Psychology. You can see more details on these options here.
