YEAR NINE SPOT-KICK SUPERSTARS LIFT THE HERTFORDSHIRE UNDER 14S DISTRICT CUP!
A tense game was played out at Richard Hale School this afternoon as Chauncy faced Haileybury Turnford in the final of the Under 14s District Cup. Chauncy took an early lead with a well-taken goal from Jude Stewart but couldn’t take advantage of their early dominance, and Turnford grew back into the game. Both teams played direct football, and Turnford used their height and physical strength to good effect to create a series of chances in the second half. A free kick 25 yards from the Chauncy goal was powerfully and accurately driven home by a Turnford midfielder to equalise spectacularly. Chauncy raised their game and created two good chances that went narrowly wide before scoring what was thought to be the winning goal, only for it to be disallowed for offside. Extra time couldn’t determine a winner, so a nerve-wracking penalty shoot out ensued. Fortunately, Chauncy scored all four of their spot-kicks, whilst Turnford missed two of theirs. Strong penalties from Archie Honour, Jude Stewart, Jenson Hollingsworth and Jaxon Casey guaranteed a 4-1 victory, and Chauncy crowned District Cup Champions! Well done boys!
