INDUSTRIAL ACTION – TUESDAY 5TH JULY 2016

Dear Parent \ Carer

The National Union of Teachers has called an official one day strike for Tuesday 5th July 2016. The strike follows a ballot of the NUT membership. The action seeks to persuade the government, “to protect pay and working conditions and increase presently inadequate funding levels.”

Strike action will be varied across the country and schools will respond in different ways depending on the number of teachers in the NUT and striking. The school NUT group have given me the list of their members on strike and it will be impossible to run the school in the normal manner.

The school will be open for Year 7 students. They should attend as usual, in school uniform and with PE kit. Their Achievement Assembly will go ahead as planned at 2.30pm.

Teachers of Year 12 students will tell them which lessons are going ahead.

The school will be closed all day on Tuesday 5th July for Years 8, 9 and 10.

I am sorry that we are sending students home and I know that the teachers striking have considered the inconvenience their action may cause.

Yours faithfully

Dennis O’Sullivan
