CAN YOUR CHILD WALK TO SCHOOL? ROAD SAFETY AT CHAUNCY

We had an interesting end of school yesterday as it appeared that most of the school population were collected by car at 3.35pm. We had parents parking in the bus lane, across zebra crossings and blocking access roads as they waited for their children to arrive. The departure from school blocked Park Road until 4.00pm, when we are usually clear by 3.45pm. Can I please suggest that if they can, Chauncy students walk, scoot or cycle to school? If this is not possible we advise using public transport or ‘park and stride’ where parents drop off and collect away from Park Road and allow students to walk the rest of the journey to and from school. ASDA car park has proven to be a popular location for this as parents can shop or enjoy a coffee whilst waiting for their child. We would also encourage ride sharing to reduce the volume of traffic in the town at key times if walking, scooting, cycling or public transport is not viable. Safety of our children is a key priority for us.
